My first true “in love” relationship happened when I was in high school. I was on the cheerleading squad and Dave was a football player. We met and started to date. We had an immediate connection. Even though I was a teenager, I felt emotions I had never felt before. A few months after we started dating Dave went on a family vacation and sent me a letter.
My Mother handed me the letter when it arrived. I saw that it was from Dave, and with excitement I ran to my bedroom. I took the letter out of the envelope and closed the door. Sitting on the floor, with my back up against the door I read the beautiful love letter from Dave. He shared with me his adventures on his vacation with his family but told me that he missed me and at the bottom of the letter, he wrote these words “I love you”. OMG! No one had ever told me they loved me. I was shocked. Someone loves me? I cried and cried like a baby. This experience brought emotions of joy and sadness. Joy, because I was loved and sadness because I had never heard those words before.
Dave and I were inseparable throughout most of my high school years. During our senior year, Dave started to grow distant, spending more time with one of his friends whose sister attended a different high school. A couple of weeks later Dave terminated our relationship and started dating his friend’s sister. I didn’t expect that. Because of how that relationship ended, I created a belief system that I wasn’t lovable and undeserving of love. I felt empty.
The pain I felt from that breakup was devastating. I did decide that no one would ever hurt me like that again! Little did I know that kind of thinking was only hurting me.
From that point on I had many relationships … one after another. But I would be the one to terminate them all because I did not want to be hurt again.
After going through a series of failed relationships, I decided to ask my Mentor Bob Proctor for relationship advice. He knew a thing or two about success and I felt strongly that he could help me. I was in my 20’s at the time and I felt that I should be thinking about a long-term relationship if I wanted to start a family.
Bob Proctor and I sat down for a heart to heart talk. He asked me an important question, “Describe to me who your ideal partner is.” I started with … “he’s fun to be with, open minded, positive, likes to laugh, family oriented, romantic, responsible, honest, …” and on and on the list went.
Bob listened intently. And, then he asked me a very important question: “Peggy, do you believe you are all of those things?”
Hmmm…. I had to think about that. I felt I was and said so. He said “great”. He went on to share that whatever we are, we will attract. If you want to have fun in your life, be fun. If you want to have honesty in your life, be honest. If you want to have love in your life, be loving. If you want to have romance in your life, be romantic.
Quite simply the message is to be the source.
Be the source of whatever it is that you desire.
Now in my 50’s I enjoy a fulfilling and happy marriage with my husband Denis. I never look for Denis to be the source of anything in my life (love, joy, fun, romance, honesty), as I know that for me to experience those things in my life, I MUST be the source. It must come from me. Our marriage is magical and it appears to others that we have “lucked” out. But, we know that the love and joy we experience is based on choice. The choice to be the source of our desire.
And, this formula for success (BE THE SOURCE) applies to anything and everything.
If you want to have success in your life, be the source of success in others.
If you want to have prosperity in your life, be the source of prosperity in others.
The formula is summed up in three powerful words, and has the potential to change your life for the better.
