A 5-gallon bucket, A 25-pound bag of sugar, And a Decision

“Accurate analysis of over 25,000 men and women who had experienced failure, disclosed the fact that lack of decision was near the head of the list of the 30 major causes of failure. This is no mere statement of a theory–it is a fact.” – Napoleon Hill

QUIZ: Is your decision-making ability strong enough to read this short email?

I’m releasing my first book today! It all started with me in a storage room with a 25-pound bag of sugar as my desk and a 5-gallon bucket as my chair watching Bob Proctor’s live webinar …. Wait a minute, let me give you the backstory…

My wife and I were married only a month when we opened our first restaurant. Now, I always had lofty goals and dreams, but I’m not sure either one of us knew what we were getting ourselves into. We moved into my parent’s garage because we had virtually no money. We ate, slept, and breathed restaurant, but even then, we were barely, and I mean barely making ends meet. The next few years were, to say the least, intense. There were even two different times our funds were so low that we were only one week away from going out of business. My wife even had to quit college to help keep the business afloat. I couldn’t believe I had dragged my sweet wife into such a hard life. I was disheartened with the way my life had turned out. Juggling the rising food costs, staffing issues, equipment breakdowns, taxes, the marketing, and an 80-hour work-week wasn’t quite the freedom I was looking for.

About this time, by the grace of God, I met a couple of mentors, one of which pointed me to the book “Think and Grow Rich”, while the other gave me a copy of the film “The Secret”. That’s the first time I ever saw Bob Proctor. Over the next few years, I would gradually become obsessed with the information that Bob teaches.

The good news is that the more I studied Bob, the better everything seemed to get, we even got some time off. By this time, we had had the restaurant for about 5 years. Then suddenly everything came to a screeching halt. Both of my managers decided to leave us, at almost the same time. I was completely and utterly heartbroken. We were just beginning to make progress and the floor fell out from under us. I was ready to give it all up and sell out. That’s when I got an email that Bob was going to be doing a live webinar. Out of desperation, I registered, but I must admit I was excited because it was live and I would get to see Bob in real-time. So, armed with my laptop I was all set up in our party room at the restaurant, which, at the time was rarely used, but then 5 minutes before the webinar began I was notified that we had a group suddenly request the party room.

Five minutes later there I was in my restaurant’s storage room with a 25-pound bag of sugar as my desk and a 5-gallon bucket as my chair…My employees were passing by me with confused looks on their faces, but as I sat there watching the webinar Bob looked into the camera, and it seemed as if he was peering into my soul and he invited me to register for the live event in L.A. which was to be held in just a few weeks. I didn’t have the money, but I took a leap of faith and put the entire trip on credit. I was petrified. I hadn’t even discussed this with my wife, but it just felt right.

Fast forward a few weeks and my wife and I are sitting at that event, and Bob said, “I can show you how to earn twice as much and work half as hard.” Now, when I first heard that I didn’t believe it, however, I had studied Bob enough to know he knew what he was talking about. And after only a year and a half, my life has completely changed. My restaurant managers actually came back and we are currently in the process of opening our second location, with plans for a 3rd. My income has nearly tripled, and I now work less than half of what I did. My first book “We Think In Secret” is being released today, and my life is expanding in the most beautiful and wonderful ways.

So, what’s the point? Well, my entire world turned around because of one decision made sitting on a bucket. If I had let any circumstance stop that one small decision, I probably wouldn’t have written my book and probably wouldn’t even be writing this story now. Each decision we make truly affects the direction our life takes. Deciding to open this story, deciding to read this far into the story, or even deciding to pick up a new book are all decisions that can spark dramatic shifts in your life. We only have one life here on this earth, so far as we know, so we should make the most of it. Be alert, be persistent and follow your dreams. Remember that each decision you make, even if it is one made sitting on a bucket, truly can make all the difference.
